Introduction

Hello there!

My name is Owen aka W4rH4mm3r, welcome to my blog: HeimdalSec! I am planning on using this as a way to track my journey into Cyber Security. Expect posts about what I am learning, what courses I am taking and things like write-ups of Hack The Box (HTB) machines as I complete them.

Background

I am nearly 10 years into my IT career, I have worked in a fair few roles and a fair few industries across my career so far. I am currently working as a 2nd Line Engineer in the education industry but I have been: Service desk technician, a 2nd line technician, a system administrator and a Tooling and Automation Engineer. Most recently before this job I ran my own IT support company for a little while. 

I have been interested in cyber security for years, I have been a listener to DarkNet diaries and other podcasts and I have followed cyber security news but never really made a concerted effort to step into the industry. This year I decided that I want to make moves towards working in the industry properly so I started a basic cyber security course through my job and have been dipping my toes into the wider industry.

Personal Life
Out of work I have a few hobbies: I am a PC gamer (as seems to be inevitable when working in IT), a distance runner (Most recently crossed a marathon off my todo list, now onto ultramarathon training), outdoors man and cat Dad. I love being out in the wilderness and will get out to the Lakes and the Peaks as often as possible. I live close enough to a beautiful Moorland that I do most of my running there!
